A Wedding at the Cote d’Azur at a dazzling soft-pink villa; doesn’t that sound like a dream? Luckily, today we can share real photos of the event and we take you to the French wedding of E & R at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, near the city of Nice on the coast of southern France.
Dusty Blue photographer Michèlle Wever tells: “In 2018 I met R & E for their engagement session in beautiful Groningen, in The Netherlands. During this shoot they wanted to have a nice photo taken for their save the date card. I immediately felt a connection with them and with great pleasure I captured the love between them. A year and a half later I got on a plane to Nice to capture their wedding at one of the most beautiful wedding venues in France, if you ask me. This wedding was special in all aspects, a true fairytale, and so much love!”

The love story of the Russian couple E & R starts in Groningen, where they met during their days as students. They clicked immediately, although it took a few more months before they both wanted to admit it.
Six years later they share a love that you only read about in books and it couldn’t have gone any other way than for E to get down on his knee and R saying ‘Da!‘.
E & R tell: “Six years ago, something seemingly innocent occurred – E messaged R on Facebook and nothing would ever be the same again. We rocked each other’s world, although we needed three months and numerous parties with friends, to admit it. We were both students – young, wild and free – and eager to start understanding the world together. So we did, by traveling to lands far, far away, watching movies, and talking deep into the night, helping each with everything life threw at each of us.
Life has changed in the last six years, and our love for each other grew to unprecedented heights. Such love has only been written about in books and songs. What else was there to do for E, but to get down on one knee and pop the big question – luckily, R said ‘’Da!””
To the question ‘What do you admire about each other?’ they answer: “We complement each other perfectly, R loves details, E loves the big picture. R is very responsible and structured, E is very creative and artistic. We both want the same things and have the same values, we see the future together where we share our dreams.”
R: “I admire E’s passion and energy that he is sharing with other people.”
E: “I admire R’s brilliant insights, leadership and humor.”
E & R planned their wedding being inspired by the beautiful Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
This chic villa was designed in the early 20th century by Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild. Not only did she opt for a completely pink exterior of the villa, she also turned it into a true haven for art collectors with porcelain, furniture and paintings by the great masters.
The villa has no fewer than nine separate themed gardens and a great view on the Mediterranean Sea on both sides. The main garden, ‘The French Garden’, was designed by the Baroness in the form of a ship’s deck. Decorated with waterfalls and ponds and the Temple of Love on the bow. Hundred-year-old olive trees, cypress hedges and Aleppo pines have deeply rooted in the garden.
Because the gardens and building are so extraordinary, E & R wanted to keep the decorations of their wedding simple. They chose decorations and flowers that compliment the beauty of this gorgeous wedding venue in France and a color palette of beige, light pink and white.
E & R: “We went with ivory and beige colors for the flowers and the houppa. We wanted to use delicate roses as much as possible as this is our favourite flower. We even chose La vie en rose for the first dance! It was all quite glamorous; men in a smoking, women in long dresses, French acoustic love songs, exclusive food such as truffles, caviar and all other spoils of life.”
R: “I loved two moments the most. First was the the first look. It was truly a magical moment that you cannot dream up. I was nervous whether he would like the dress, my make up, my hair etc. Therefore for me it was very important to see his true emotions to feel confident that he approved. I also loved his reaction, his eyes, his emotions – it was priceless.”
E: “Overall, I loved seeing R be in her element, smiling throughout the wedding day while being surrounded by our friends and family in the beautiful south of France, in a freakin wedding dress! I also LOVED the words from her vows.”
R: “Give tasks to your bridesmaids, they will be happy to help you and to take care of you; start make up and hairs earlier than everyone suggests. In my case it took longer than expected and it was a small chaos.”
A wedding at the Cote d’Azur sounds truly magical! Enjoy E & R’s beautiful wedding.
